Dental Crowns & Bridges

At our practice, we offer high quality dental crowns and bridges which are a great solution when you want to restore your teeth to full strength after damage or decay.

Fitting a crown is a relatively simple procedure and the end result will be a natural-looking, strong implant that will completely blend with your existing teeth. If you’re sick of having to worry about what you eat, having frequent toothaches, or putting up with an unsightly damaged tooth then a crown could be the best solution for you.

What is a Crown?

A crown is a custom-made cap for your tooth, designed to match the shape and colour of your natural enamel. They can be made out of porcelain, a porcelain and metal mix, or gold depending on your budget and the look you want to achieve.

What is a Dental Bridge?

When you have a missing tooth that’s between two healthy teeth, we can use the ones on either side of the gap to support what’s called a bridge. The bridge itself is a restoration that looks like three dental crowns bonded together. Instead of taking it out like a denture, it’s permanently attached to the supporting teeth. We can even use extended dental bridges on top of a pair of implants to support 3-4 teeth in a row.

The benefit of bridges is that they efficiently replace missing teeth. The disadvantage is that if the supporting teeth wouldn’t benefit from a crown, it can destroy otherwise healthy tooth structure. In the instance where there is a healthy virgin tooth on either side of the gap, we might recommend an alternative such as a single dental implant.

Benefits of Restoring Your Smile

Dental crowns are recommended for patients who would like to restore both the appearance and strength of a tooth. Tooth crowns represent an overlap of both restorative and cosmetic dentistry as they can fix a dental problem while also improving the overall look of your teeth in a natural way.
Crowns can solve issues such as:
Although dental enamel is the strongest substance produced by the human body, it cannot heal itself; once a tooth is damaged in any way, restorative dentistry is the only treatment option. If you suffer from any of the dental issues listed above, having a crown fitted could be the solution for you!

The Procedure

To fit a crown, your dentist will begin by reshaping your tooth so the crown can be securely fixed over it. We will administer a local anaesthetic before filing down some of the enamel to make sure you are completely comfortable during the procedure. The next step is taking an impression of the target tooth, which will be sent to our dental laboratory and used to make your tooth crown.

At the end of this visit, you’ll be given a temporary crown to protect your tooth until your implant is ready. Once your crown has been made, you’ll make a second trip to your dentist where it will be fixed permanently in place. After a little getting used to, your crown will feel and look just like a natural tooth and will last for many years to come.
