Root Canal Therapy (Endodontics)

When the nerve of the tooth becomes infected or dies, it is necessary to remove the nerve from the roots of the tooth. The root canal is filed to shape, sterilised, and then filled with rubber and dental cement. Often the tooth requires several appointments to complete the root canal therapy and several X-rays. In complex cases, or if the patient prefers, a referral to a specialist Endodontist  may be necessary.

Once root canal treatment has been finished, the tooth may then need a full crown or very large filling to restore the tooth to full function. Information brochures are available.
